近年來，節能減碳席捲全球車壇，也造就了各車廠紛紛將引擎排氣量下降、導入增壓技術，甚至是推出Hybrid油電複合動力以及更加省油與潔淨的柴油車型；但Hybrid油電複合動力與柴油車型，在一般消費者的印象中，總是「有節能、沒性能」，但近來柴油車與油電複合車在賽車場上的表現，可說是徹底打破這個迷思，如今MAZDA也宣布，將以SKYACTIV-D Smart Diesel Technology柴油動力，打造兩輛原型賽車，參加美國United SportsCar賽事。
